They’re sure to pop up on the next awards-show red carpet.

Bold red lips have been one of the most prevalent trends of this awards season thus far. Scarlet was rocked en masse at the Golden Globes, and many of the best dressed at the Critics’ Choice Awards — including Kirsten Dunst, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams and Leslie Mann — also wore a version of the classic.

Now Dior’s pre-fall runway has given makeup artists yet another source of inspiration for a dramatic iteration on crimson. Masterminded by Peter Philips, the French fashion house’s creative and image director for Dior Makeup, the edgy beauty look worn by models was punctuated with deep, intensely colored lips.

Philips’ creation has more plum inflections than cherry red, similar to the hue worn by Jennifer Lopez at the Golden Globes. His version, too, was completely matte. “Rock and chic, it is the center of attention,” says Philips. “To get this intense color, the lips were first lined in Dior Contour lip liner in Thrilling Plum ($30) before Diorific Mat Troublante was applied.” The latter shade is not available stateside, but Dior Addict Lipstick in Gotha #976 ($38) can replicate the look.

The final effect on the catwalk was, according to Philips, “sophisticated, with a sensual, pigmented velvet effect.” Amber Heard coordinated her brighter red pout at the Golden Globes with her stunning gown, but with the right dress we could totally see her kill it in this look.
