Dior’s Pieces of Art on Rodeo Drive

38 style Bags - P – 2016
Mike Lorrig

The luxury label commissioned six young artists to create limited-edition Lady Dior bags, available to purchase at the Beverly Hills’ pop-up boutique this December.

From modern, sculptural metallics to street art-inspired splatters, Dior is giving its most iconic handbag a new look. The style, favored by Sarah Jessica Parker, Marion Cotillard (a face of the brand) and Princess Diana, has been reimagined by six new British and American artists: Jason Martin, Ian Davenport, Mat Collishaw, Matthew Porter, Daniel Gordon and Chris Martin. Dior previously collaborated with artist Marc Quinn, known for his daring interpretations of nature and cutting-edge science. After being unveiled at Art Basel on Nov. 29, the bags will be available starting Dec. 6 exclusively in Los Angeles. Here, a peek at three of the artists’ renderings that will have you saying, "J’adore."

1. Neon splatters

Haute fashion meets street art with New York City-based abstract painter Chris Martin’s graffiti-esque rendition of the Small Lady Dior bag; $4,700, all bags available Dec. 6 through mid-January at Dior’s Lady Art pop-up boutique (201 N. Rodeo Drive)

2. Flights of fancy

A print by English contemporary artist Mat Collishaw of a hypnotic, fantastical butterfly motif adorns the Medium bag; $4,900

3. Gilded glamour

Artist Jason Martin, who splits his time between London and Portugal, gave Dior’s Mini his signature sculptural treatment in metallic rose gold an embroidered, wavy sequins; $4,500

Below, watch artist Chris Martin talk about expanding from the traditional art world into creating works for Dior.
