Dis TV inks deals in Italy, Spain

CANNES -- Disney's international TV arm has inked two program deals in key European territories at MIPCOM.

The Fox channels in Italy, which are on a pay TV platform, picked up two new Disney primetime series, "Private Practice" and "Dirty Sexy Money," as well as the upcoming new midseason drama "Eli Stone." Fox entertainment channels will premiere the series and then the titles will be broadcast on free TV.

Fox Italia already airs Disney's ABC hits "Lost," "Desperate Housewives" and "Grey's Anatomy."

Similarly, Spain's Antena 3 has snapped up the same three series as well as Disney Channel series "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and "Cory in the House."

Unveiling the deals Tuesday, Disney senior VP Jim Brehm said the company was "delighted to build on its relationships with these two broadcasters." No details of the price per episode were available.

Disney also signed its first deal for a subscription SVOD movie service called the Film Factory on Mio TV, a digital service operated by Singapore Telecommunications, that country's leading quad-play provider.

Starting this month, subscribers to the Film Factory channel will be able to view library feature titles on-demand from Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar, Touchstone and Miramax. The Film Factory will offer a selection of between 15-28 movies for a monthly fee of $12. Subscribers can choose to watch the movies whenever they want, as many times as they want, each month.

"This landmark deal brings the latest Hollywood blockbusters to Singapore's Mio TV customers whenever they want it," said Greg Johnson, vp at Disney-ABC International Television (Asia Pacific). "The Film Factory is just another step in our commitment to letting as many people enjoy our content in flexible and legitimate ways."
