Discovery Channel Promotes Phil Zimmerman to VP Communications
He most recently was senior director, overseeing publicity campaigns for such series as 'Deadliest Catch' and 'Gold Rush.'
Phil Zimmerman has been promoted to vp communication at Discovery Channel, where he will help drive communications strategies.
Zimmerman joined Discovery in 2012 and rose up the ranks, most recently serving as senior director overseeing publicity campaigns for such series as Deadliest Catch; Gold Rush; Bering Sea Gold; the network's first true crime series, Killing Fields; and live events like Skywire Live With Nik Wallenda.
In his new role, Zimmerman will continue reporting to Laurie Goldberg, executive vp communications at Discovery, Animal Planet and Science Channel.
Before joining Discovery, Zimmerman was senior publicist for Jeopardy!, where he served as the lead contact for the series and host Alex Trebek. He also led the publicity campaign for Jeopardy! The IBM Challenge, featuring the man vs. machine competition against IBM's Watson, which became one of the most publicized events in the show's history.
Before Jeopardy!, Zimmerman worked his way up in the communications departments for such PBS series as The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer, Frontline and Independent Lens.
