Discovery dives into shipwrecks

Sets 11-part series targeted to premiere next year

Discovery Channel is going deep underwater to explore shipwrecks and the artifacts found there.

Odyssey Marine Exploration has granted JWM Prods. exclusive access to film its 2008 Atlas Search expeditions for an 11-part high-definition series targeted to premiere next year.

Among Odyssey's discoveries are the Civil War-era shipwreck of the SS Republic in 2003, including the recovery of 50,000 coins and 14,000 artifacts, and a Colonial-era site code-named Black Swan, where it recovered more than 500,000 silver and gold coins.

Episodes will feature Odyssey's hunt for underwater archaeological sites and shipwrecks, forensic analysis of the artifacts they find and underwater video shot with Odyssey's Remotely Operated Vehicles.
