Discovery expanding TLC to four territories

Launching in Poland, Serbia, Slovenia and Bulgaria in Oct. 1

Discovery is extending the global reach of TLC, the entertainment and lifestyle channel for women, with launches slated in Poland, Serbia, Slovenia and Bulgaria on Oct. 1.

Announcement comes on the eve of the MIPCOM TV trade show in Cannes where further carriage options generally get discussed with foreign players by major U.S. companies seeking to extend their channels abroad.

TLC will feature non-scripted and scripted entertainment focusing on everything from food, family, and fashion to travel, health and life events.

"Expanding the reach of TLC in these high-growth European markets is an important milestone in our global roll-out of the channel," said Mark Hollinger, president and CEO of
Discovery Networks Int'l.

TLC is now available in 29 markets across Europe, Asia and Latin America, and will likely reach 75 markets and 100 million households in 2011. In the U.S., TLC reaches 100 million homes and currently ranks as one of the top 10 nets in key female demos.

TLC made its international debut on March 4 in Norway.

TLC joins Discovery's portfolio of global brands that include Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and Discovery Science, among others.
