Discovery gets brand man
EmptyFormer MTV Networks executive James Hitchcock has been named marketing and branding officer at Discovery Channel.
Hitchcock will lead and direct the network's branding and will be responsible for developing creative and media strategies, working closely across all departments to actively leverage advertising and promotional investments with digital, communications and commerce opportunities.
Hitchcock most recently was senior vp marketing and creative at MTVN's cable network CMT. Before that, he worked at Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, Chiat Day and Fallon McElligott Berlin with such brands as Target, Nike, Coca-Cola and Volkswagen.
He will report to president and GM John Ford.
"Discovery Channel has always charted a bold course in programming and brand identity," Ford said. "James continues that tradition by bringing a fresh, invigorating approach to his craft and by pushing beyond the boundaries of traditional marketing."
