Discovery launches print magazine

SINGAPORE -- Discovery Networks Asia launched its first print venture in the region Thursday in a licensing deal with Reader’s Digest Asia.

Discovery Channel Magazine will be published six times a year out of Singapore, and will be sold on newsstands and by subscription.

The 118-page inaugural issue goes on sale on newsstands in Singapore Friday and in the rest of Southeast Asia next week.

The print venture is one of Discovery’s three priorities for Asia this year, along with HD and the launch of the Planet Green brand in April, said Discovery’s executive vice president and managing director for Asia, Tom Keaveny.

Keaveny said print was a “natural extension” for the Discovery brand. “There is no such thing as old media. It’s all media,” he said.
