Discovery locks up programming blocks
Deals in Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, PolandCANNES -- Discovery Channel said Wednesday it has secured branded programming blocks on German net Kabel 1, RTL Hungary, Barrandov TV in the Czech Republic and Poland's TV4. The deal, brokered by Discovery Enterprises International, accounts for more than 130 hours of Discovery Channel-branded programming.
Kabel 1, owned by ProSieben, will take 50 hours of content per year in a branded block called K1Discovery including such shows as "Extreme Engineering," "Man Made Marvels," and "Weaponology," RTL Croatia will take 30 hours including "Storm Chasers," "Man vs Wild" and "Everest Beyond the Limit," and Barrandov TV will take 38 hours ranging from "Europe's Richest People" to "Austin Stevens: Snakemaster," while TV4 will take 16 hours.
Discovery Enterprises International senior vp Caleb Weinstein said the deal represented "a commitment to strengthening ongoing relationships."
