Discovery names global distrib'n president

Bill Goodwyn also tapped as top dog at education division

Bill Goodwyn has been named to the newly created role of president of global distribution for Discovery Communications. A mainstay at the Silver Spring, Md.-based company, Goodwyn also was appointed CEO of Discovery Education.

Goodwyn will lead efforts to secure additional carriage for Discovery's 100-plus global networks. International expansion has been a top priority at Discovery since David Zaslav came on as president and CEO in January 2007. Goodwyn also will continue to spearhead Discovery's domestic distribution efforts.

Along with the bump upstairs on the distribution side, Goodwyn was made the top dog at Discovery's education division. Since 2007, he has been overseeing the team that has brought the service's streaming media content to more than half of the nation's K-12 schools.

Goodwyn previously served as president of domestic distribution and enterprises and president of Discovery Education.

"Since 1987, Bill has built a content distribution platform that is second to none and rebuilt the nascent Discovery Education division into one of the fastest-growing parts of our company," Zaslav said. "Bill has helped to make Discovery the company it is today and is the natural choice to lead the next phase of Discovery's international carriage expansion."
