Disney, ESPN in HD pact with DirecTV


NEW YORK -- Disney and ESPN Media Networks said Tuesday that DirecTV has agreed to launch several of the company's high-definition channels to its lineup.

The companies also agreed that DirecTV will offer ESPN Desportes on its Spanish-language service beginning this month.

The HD channels include ESPNEWS HD, Toon Disney HD, Disney Channel HD and ABC Family HD. ESPNEWS HD will launch early next year from ESPN's soon-to-be-opened digital newsroom. Also going next year will be Disney Channel HD and Toon Disney HD. ABC Family's new HD will be launched at some point as well.

ESPN said that DirecTV's Spanish-language service reaches 1 million households.
