Disney India to debut live action film
'Do Dooni Chaar' set for Oct. 10 releaseNEW DELHI -- The Walt Disney Company India is set to release its first Hindi live action film in October titled “Do Dooni Chaar” ("Two Times Two Equals Four"), starring veteran actors and real-life couple Rishi and Neetu Kapoor.
WDCI debuted its first title here in 2008 with Hindi animation release “Roadside Romeo,” co-produced with veteran Bollywood banner Yash Raj Films.
“Do Dooni Chaar” is produced by Planman Motion Pictures and is described as “an inspiring story of a middle class family” directed by Habib Faisal.
As one of the most popular stars of the 1970s who also delivered some memorable hits as a duo, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor – their son Ranbir is now one of Bollywood's rising stars -- will return to the big screen after almost three decades, although the couple had a brief appearance in last year's romantic hit “Love Aaj Kal."
“Storytelling is at the heart of Disney’s creative heritage and 'Do Dooni Chaar' is the best representation of this with its delightful and touching narrative that will resonate with every Indian family and features characters to fall in love with,” said Walt Disney Studios International Production (India) executive director - theatrical productions and acquisitions Swati Shetty.
"'Do Dooni Chaar' has been an incredible experience for us and we are thrilled to be working with Disney to enable more Indian movie lovers the opportunity to see this film that we are extremely proud of. The story of the Duggal family is one that will resonate strongly with Indian audiences and is one of universal heartache and triumph that represents the very best of the coming together of family,” said Planman Motion Pictures CEO and creative director Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharjee.
“'Do Dooni Chaar' and the recently announced Telegu [language] fantasy adventure film 'Anaganaga - O – Dheerudu' ('Once Upon A Warrior'), made for our southern audiences, highlights great filmmaking, timeless stories and the versatility of our studio business to produce across different languages and genres,” added Shetty.
Directed by Prakash Rao Kovelamudi, “Anaganaga - O – Dheerudu” stars popular South Indian actor Siddharth and actress Shruti Haasan, and will release in January 2011.
Disney's slate also includes the previously announced Hindi live action film, “Zokkomon,” a superhero caper starring child actor Darsheel Safary and acclaimed actor Anupam Kher, directed by Satyajit Bhatkal.
“Zokkomon is in post production. We are committed to entertaining Indian kids and families with quality, engaging content that reflect Disney's storytelling values and we are looking forward to bringing Zokkomon to the Indian screens,” added Shetty.
