Disney Makes Kid-Friendly Social Media App
The app, for iOS and Android devices, makes "it possible for fans to enjoy safe and trusted Disney content in the most accessible way."
Disney is making short videos available to fans in a familiar, family-friendly format via its new app Disney LOL.
The app, which launched Thursday, curates social content such as .gifs, Vines and short-form videos from Disney Channel, Marvel, Star Wars, Disney XD, Disney-Pixar and Disney Interactive Media.
The app is free and available for iOS and Android devices in the U.S. and Canada.
"We're creating content for digitally native families every day, and these new experiences offer Disney stories and characters in formats that are familiar to our audience," Michael Hundgen, Disney's director of content strategy and editorial for consumer products and interactive media, said in a statement.
"Our audience engages when we interpret classic Disney stories in new ways, with bite-sized, shareable pieces of content relatable to all ages," continued Hundgen. "With Disney LOL, we're making it possible for fans to enjoy safe and trusted Disney content in the most accessible way."
A Disney LOL portal has launched in addition to the app and will feature interactive videos, games, trivia and jokes.
The company also announced it is launching a Mickey Video app, which will feature short-form Disney videos that are up to five minutes long for kids and families. Mickey Video will be available for the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.
