Disney, Orbit Showtime ink long-term deal
Extensive deal with pay platform across Middle East, N. AfricaMore MIPCOM coverage
CANNES -- The Mouse House has just closed at MIPCOM a multi-year, multi-genre agreement with pay platform Orbit Showtime, which airs across the Middle East and North Africa. The deal covers movies in multiple windows -- Video On Demand (VOD), pay TV (PTV) and pay per view (PPV), ABC Studios network series, the U.S. talk show, "The View" and ABC News programming.
Included are the rights to all current and upcoming ABC Studios series including "Desperate Housewives" and "Grey's Anatomy" as well as the new family drama series "No Ordinary Family," starring Michael Chiklis ("The Shield").
Disney/Pixar features such as "Alice in Wonderland," "The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" and "Toy Story 3" are also part of the pact.
Orbit beams a range of channels devoted to movies, series, sports, lifestyle, and news.
The agreement was negotiated by Disney's Giovanni Mastrangelo, general manager for Emerging Markets, working with Orbit's Khulud Abu Homos, svp of Western Programming. No financial details were made available.
