Disney promotes Brenek
EmptyJason Brenek has been promoted to the newly created position of senior vp worldwide digital cinema and cinema programming at Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
Brenek, who was vp distribution strategy, will be responsible for developing and overseeing nonmovie digital-cinema content, including 3-D and live events, setting Disney's worldwide d-cinema strategy and negotiating and closing d-cinema deployment deals. Additionally, he will work with all areas of production and distribution in the transition from film to digital exhibition.
Brenek will report to Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group; he will work directly with Chuck Viane, president of distribution at Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, and Anthony Marcoly, president of distribution at Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International.
In his previous role, Brenek led negotiations and signed early d-cinema deployment deals for the studio with Dolby and Christie/AIX. He oversaw similar negotiations for the Arts Alliance international d-cinema deployment deal, which was announced in February. For the launch of Disney's "Chicken Little," the industry's first digital 3-D release, Brenek worked toward the creation of an alliance among Disney, Dolby, ILM and Real D.
Brenek began his association with Disney in 1996 with Buena Vista Home Entertainment International. He then moved to Fox, where he worked in the international theatrical group from 1997-99. He returned to Disney in 2003.
