Disney to Release Limited-Edition Mouse Ears With Heidi Klum, Ashley Eckstein

Fashion brand Coach, designers Betsey Johnson and Vera Wang, and model-entrepreneur Karlie Kloss are among the other collaborators.

Today, Disney Parks announced that their coveted Mickey Mouse ear hats and Minnie Mouse ear headbands have received a makeover from a wide-ranging list of stars, designers and artists.

Among those tapped to lend their creative vision were fashion brands Coach and The Blonds, jewelry brand Alex and Ani, designers Betsey Johnson and Vera Wang, Star Wars actress Ashley Eckstein, and supermodel entrepreneurs Heidi Klum and Karlie Kloss.

"Last year, Disney came to me and asked if I would be interested in designing my own pair of Minnie ears," Eckstein noted on her Instagram. "I was shocked and in utter disbelief! I spent an entire weekend sketching ideas and the entire process has just been surreal!"

Vera Wang, who is known for her bridal gowns worn by stars including Alicia Keys and Kim Kardashian, added a ceremonial take with hand-sewn crystals and pearl embroidery as well as silk and tulle fabrics that she often uses for her own collections.

“As a lifelong lover of Disney, and the joy and happiness, not to mention fantasy, Disney has inspired in all of us,” Wang said in a statement of her fall 2020 release. “I am both thrilled and honored to have partnered with them to create the Vera Wang Disney wedding veil with the iconic mouse ears so symbolic of their global brand.”

Designers have long gravitated toward Disney and incorporated its famous characters into their work. In 2009 Supreme launched Supreme x Mickey Mouse, a capsule collection that featured Mickey Mouse on hoodies and shirts. In 2013, Riccardo Tisci (who served as creative director of Givenchy at the time) released a collection that featured Bambi sweatshirts, bags, and more with a campaign starring actress Amanda Seyfried.

Last March, fashion designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony held the second fashion show ever at the Anaheim theme park and released a mens and womenswear collection in collaboration with Disney that simultaneously honored Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday. Guests at the show included Maya Rudolph, Chance the Rapper, and Chloe x Halle.  

And in January, Italian luxury brand Gucci released a Three Little Pigs-themed capsule collection of apparel and accessories in honor of the Chinese New Year's year of the pig.

The ear hats and headbands will be available beginning May 24 at Disneyland Resort in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and online. New designs will be unveiled monthly with additional designers announced.
