Disney unveils first live-action Hindi film

'Zokkomon' tells story of boy superhero

NEW DELHI -- Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures India unveiled Monday the poster and trailer of its first live action Hindi feature film, “Zokkomon,” which is scheduled for a May release.

Starring popular child actor Darsheel Safary -- best known for his 2008 debut where he portrayed a young boy suffering from dyslexia in the acclaimed “Taare Zameen Par” ("Stars on Earth") -- “Zokkomon” is directed by Satyajit Bhatkal.

Disney unveiled the trailer in New Delhi at an event in the presence of the National Bravery Award winners, the government's annual honors for children and youngsters who have performed real-life brave deeds and are featured as part of India's Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

“Zokkomon” is an action-adventure film about an orphan boy, Kunal, who discovers how cruel life is when he is abandoned by his heartless uncle. Left to fend for himself, Kunal begins his epic journey of adventure and transformation to become the superhero character Zokkomon.

The cast also includes acclaimed veteran actor Anupam Kher (international credits include “Bend It Like Beckham”) and actress Manjiri Phadnis.

Disney's debut Indian production was 2008's feature animation “Roadside Romeo” co-produced with veteran Bollywood banner Yash Raj Films.
