DJ Mehdi, French Music Producer, Dead at 34

The world famous DJ had collaborated with Daft Punk and Chromeo.

Mehdi Favéris-Essad, better known as DJ Mehdi by the music community, has died at the age of 34, it was confirmed by his publicist.

The cause of death is still unknown, but early reports are calling it an accident.

French hip-hop/ electro music producer rose to fame in the late 90s as a part of the group Different Teep, and became a name when he signed to French record label Ed Banger Records.

Mehdi released his first LP, The Story of Espion, in 2002 and his second album, Lucky Boy, in 2006. He has collaborated with many musicians during his career, including Daft Punk, Cassius, Carol King, MC Solarr, and Chromeo.

Chromeo and others in the music community expressed their sadness on Twitter after the news of DJ Mehdi’s death was reported.

“We lost our brother. No words,” Chromeo wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

“Damn...RIP MEHDI” wrote Drake.

"I have no words. My heart is completely shattered. Not this," wrote A-Trak, who had collaborated with Mehdi.

"R.I.P. Dj MEHDI . The void he has left behind is unbearable. Love you," wrote producer Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo.
