DJ Michelle Pesce's Coachella Beauty Routine
As she readies to spin at H&M's Coachella Pool Party at Merv Griffin's old estate, the in-demand DJ tells THR how she keeps gorgeous in the searing desert sun.
As of late, socialites-cum-DJs are a dime a dozen. But Michelle Pesce is the real deal, with over a decade of experience bringing her funky, electro old-school sound everywhere from HBO's recent Game of Thrones premiere party to this year's W Magazine Golden Globes bash at Chateau Marmont. Not to mention her weekly residency at The Dime, actor Andy Fiscella and manager Chris Huvane's eternally-cool Fairfax Avenue watering hole.
Starting out as a music publicist, Pesce is certainly no stranger to the festival circuit, either (in fact she says that Woodstock '99 is where she discovered her love of DJing in the first place). And now she's heading down to the desert to spin at H&M's Coachella pool-side soiree, held all weekend long at Merv Griffin's former estate in La Quinta.
When it comes to prepping for the intense, high-heat event, Pesce doesn't play as far as her face and body is concerned, getting ready weeks prior with juice cleanses and facials to stay gorgeous despite less-than-comfortable conditions.
Below, the spinstress shares her pre-festival beauty routine.
The Hollywood Reporter: When it comes to Coachella we usually just hop in the car and hope we have a place to crash when we get there. Sounds like your pre-festival prep is more thought out.
Michelle Pesce: Before leaving L.A, I do a five day juice cleanse from Moon Juice in Venice (507 Rose Ave., Venice). With a hectic DJ schedule, travel and late nights with Jameson or Vodka being consumed, it's easy to miss workouts and not always eat super clean. A great organic, pressed juice cleanse helps me get back on track, increasing my energy and decreasing my waistline. It also makes my skin look great.
THR: It must be brutal playing in that dry, hot weather for hours on end. How do you keep your skin from looking like leather?
MP: My normal face regimen includes Terri Lawton Stem Serum and Day Lotion. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer is the perfect lightweight and hydrating foundation, plus it has SPF. I'll be sure to have Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist behind the turntables with me. Maybe even put it in the refrigerator so it's chilled. My other obsession is Alima Pure's Organic Nourishing lip balm. It's made of all natural ingredients and soothing antioxidants and it’s scented with a touch of organic peppermint oil.
THR: Fake bake or sun-worshiper?
MP: I don’t lay out in the sun too much these days and I prefer a strong sunblock with a 50 to 85 SPF. I get a little color boost with a visit to Nine Zero One Salon (901 Westbourne Dr., West Hollywood) where Jenni Blafer gives me a great sun-kissed spray tan.
THR: Now that we know about your beauty routine, tell us about your clothes.
MP: Since I am doing the H&M Pool Party, I'll be decked out in H&M. My stylist Joey Tierney and I have selected light fabrics to be layered, since it is so hot in the daytime and cool at night. I’m a big fan of high waist shorts. Of course, having a bathing suit near is a must since we'll be at the amazing Merv Griffin Estate for the party and I can't resist taking a dip! I am constantly changing my nails and this time will be rocking a Donald Simrock nail color. It’s actually an adhesive product called 'nail tech' that I'm obsessed with right now and stays on no matter what – perfect for Coachella.
