Doc confab sets lineup

Producer-director Chuck Braverman and Solid Entertainment president Richard Propper will present a three-day conference on documentary and reality filmmaking called Westdoc: The West Coast Documentary and Reality Conference, set to run Sept. 14-16 at the Doubletree Suites Hotel in Santa Monica.

The lineup will include such participants as Thom Beers (Original Prods.), R.J. Cutler (Actual Reality Pictures), David Goldberg (Endemol North America) Robert Greenwald (Brave New Films), and Susan Lacy (American Masters, PBS).

Among the seminars to be offered: "How to Survive in This Economy"; "Getting the Network's Attention -- Especially From the Left Coast," "The Death of DVD -- Long Live Digital Delivery"; "From Indie to Oscar Nominee -- a Look at Feature Docs That Scored"; "Secrets of Superstar Producers -- Their Rise and Current Projects"; "Programmers' Panel -- What do HBO, Fox, Discovery, TLC, Really Want?"; and "From One-Off Documentary to a Reality Series -- Those Who Achieved It."

The third day centers on PitchFest, where documentary and reality producers can pitch new concepts to network and development executives for potential acquisition, in front of a live audience. The best pitch of the day will be awarded the first annual Westdoc Pitcher award.
