Double Edge buys 'Treasure Hunter'

Film stars actor/singer Jay Chou

HONG KONG – Taiwan-based sales company Double Edge Entertainment has picked up international rights to big-budget actioner "Treasure Hunter." The picture stars Mandopop superstar Jay Chou ("Curse of the Golden Flower," "Kung Fu Dunk") who has become one of the most in-demand actors in Asia.

On the eve of the AFM, Double Edge also closed a deal with IDG on "King of Fighters," a major video-game adaptation directed by Gordon Chan.

With a budget of $15 million "Treasure Hunter" is the most expensive Taiwanese film yet produced and is set for a Greater China release this December. Directed by Kevin Chu, the film also stars supermodel Lin Chi-ling. Double Edge has rights in Europe, Australia, Japan and Korea.

"King of Fighters" which screens this week in AFM stars Maggie Q, Ray Park, Sean Faris and Will Yun Lee. It was produced by Bobby Sheng, Tim Kwok and Joseph Chou.

"Gordon Chan’s last film, “Painted Skin” is one of China’s top grossing films last year. That fact, the unique genre for China, and the popular video game which KOF was drawn from made us extremely confident about acquiring this title," said IDG’s Zen Wu.
