Retail exec Paula Schneider will assume Charney's former role as CEO

American Apparel founder and former CEO Dov Charney has been officially fired, after being suspended from the company for alleged misconduct in June.

The L.A.-based apparel company has also named its next CEO: retail executive Paula Scheneider, who has previously worked at BCBG Max Azria and Warnaco Swimwear Group. She'll assume her new position starting Jan. 5 and take over for Scott Brubaker, who is currently serving as the brand's interim CEO.

"We're pleased that what we set out to do last spring — namely, to ensure that American Apparel had the right leadership — has been accomplished," said Allan Mayer, board co-chairman, in a statement.

Given Charney's troubling past, his firing comes as a surprise for, uh, no one.
