Half dozen take Residence in Cannes


PARIS -- Six new filmmakers will head to the Riviera for the 16th edition of the Cannes Residence program organized by the Festival de Cannes and presided over by Gilles Jacob.

Rebecca Daly (Ireland), Nikias Chryssos (Germany), Adrian Sitaru (Romania), Manuel Nieto Zas (Uruguay), Yang Heng (China) and Francisco Vargas Quevedo (Mexico) will meet with industry professionals and veteran filmmakers to help them write and develop their first or second feature films.

The Residence program, inaugurated in 2000 by the Cinefondation, has already welcomed more than 90 directors from across the globe including Nadine Labaki, who had a recent hit with "Caramel" and Jaime Rosales, whose "Solitary Fragments" earned Goya awards for best film, director and male hopeful.
