DreamWorks Ani teams with NBC for 'Santa'

Series planned to debut in time for Christmas 2009

NEW DELHI -- DreamWorks Animation and Indian partner Paprikaas Interactive will work on the NBC series "Mad Santa," local media reported Tuesday.

DreamWorks Animation head of international outreach Shelly Page told an Indian business paper that production on "Santa," which features characters from the 2005 DWA hit "Madagascar," will begin in early 2009.

Paprikaas also has hired about 40 artists, with plans to expand to 150.

"My role is to look for talent who will join us internationally, including for the two studios in California and now for our new setup in Bangalore," Page said. "We have supervisors trained at DreamWorks who will exclusively work on our projects in India."

With an upcoming slate that includes such titles as "Shrek Goes Fourth," "Monsters Vs Aliens" and "How to Train a Dragon," Page added that the India operation gives DreamWorks Animation "a chance to expand our production environment."
