Dress Du Jour: Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel Cruise Collection Sequin Stunner
The Kaiser showed Chanel's 2014 cruise collection in Singapore on Thursday — and we expect one particular piece to end up on a red carpet near you.
The Dress: A rather jaw-dropping black and white sequin and satin tuxedo-style gown from Chanel's just-shown 2014 cruise collection.
The Wearer: A model complete with one earring, a choppy short 'do and thick black eyeliner — aka the punk styling we saw earlier in the week at the Met Gala, that we can obviously expect to see ad nauseam for at least the next three weeks. As they say, join or die.
The Event: Chanel's 2014 cruise collection runway show, which took place on Thursday at a former British Colonial Barrack in Singapore. Model-of-the-moment Cara Delevigne walked the show (naturally), while Dakota Fanning sat front and center.
Why We Dig: We dig this dress for many, many reasons. The first being that we quite fancy the combination of androgyny and femininity. And with the feel of a traditional tux and a sweeping ballgown skirt, this dress is incredibly striking in a downplayed kind of way. We're also into shiny objects so naturally the sequins are a plus. With its oversized white satin lapels and wraparound waist, the frock also has an old movie star feel — which leads us to believe someone very photogenic will wear it to something very important, very soon. In fact Lagerfeld's Chanel cruise collection in general — which happens to be in an almost all black-and-white palette — is pretty dope, with a heavy 1930s South of France influence. We may not like his comments on weight loss or agree with his views on sweatpants, but there's no disputing that the man knows how to design.
