Dutch film backers to merge

Agency will bring together national film library

BERLIN -- Various existing organizations for the promotion and support of Dutch films will be merged into a single national film agency next year.

The Netherlands Film Sector Institute will bring together the country's national film library, the Filmmuseum, international promotional agency Holland Film, the Dutch Institute for Film Education and Filmbank, a group that provides support for experimental cinema.

The merger is the brainchild of Ronald Plasterk, the Dutch minister for Education, Culture and Sport. The Netherlands already has similar nationally organized structures coordinating state support of the music and theater sectors.

Plasterk has pledged extra funding for the new institute to help it expand into new areas.
