E1 expanding in Scandinavia, South Africa

'Bodyguards and Assassins,' 'Lemmy' part of distribution deal

TORONTO -- Canadian distributor Entertainment One is expanding its footprint in Scandinavia and South Africa.

Toronto-based E1 said it acquired the Scandinavian rights for Teddy Chan's China period thriller "Bodyguards and Assassins," as well as "Lemmy," a documentary about Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister.

E1 will also release through Scandinavian major AB Svensk Filmindustri the movie "Damage," starring TV wrestler Steve Austin, the mixed martial arts film "Death Warrior," the British gangster flick "The Big I Am" and David DeFalco's "Wrong Side."

With the move, E1 grows its presence in Europe and positions itself for growth internationally.

The Canadian distributor has also tapped the South African home entertainment distributor Next Entertainment to release in that market "The Big I Am," "Wrong Side," the Jean-Claude Van Damme-starrer "Universal Soldier: Regeneration," "Dolan's Cadillac" and "Give 'Em Hell Malone," which stars Thomas Jane.

Like recent forays into France, Australia and New Zealand, E1's TV distribution arm will oversee sales to local digital outlets and TV networks in Scandinavia and South Africa as local distributors release movie product.
