Early 2012 Fashion Dates to Mark In Your Calendar
Once 2012 kicks in, get ready for a fashion-palooza. There's barely a down or unfashionable moment as we make our way to the fall 2012 ready to wear women's collections, which will be shown from early February through March.
We'll certainly be seeing some high fashion at the gala of the Palm Springs Film Festival on January 7 -- that will be our first chance to see the Globe and Oscar hopefuls start their parade of red carpet black tie fashion. Last year, Natalie Portman started her series of amazing gowns in Palm Springs, and when the looks are lined up side by side, you see a consistency and a progression, like she planned out all the looks, one after another, to carry on a theme. That's what we call fashionable -- not to mention, stylish. Lined up together at the end of the season, they tell a story, and paint a picture of a well-defined personality.
A few days after Palm Springs, the Men's Fall 2012/2013 Collections kick off from January 14 to January 18. Of course, men's clothes don't follow the same trends as women's, but we do expect to see some strong color, some great fits, and some new accents. From January 18 to 22, the Men's Fashion Collections for fall continue in Paris, with looks by Dior Homme and Louis Vuitton. The very next day, Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week kicks off for spring/summer 2012 on January 23 till January 26, which falls in between the Golden Globes and the Oscars, which makes it possible for major stylists of awards season regulars to attend and stalk the runways for Oscar fare. The chance of any of the spring haute couture showing up at the Golden Globes is pretty minimal, but don't rule it out for Charlize Theron, a face of Dior. Speaking of Dior, there is still no name designer as couturier, though word is Jil Sander's Raf Simmons is close to closing the deal.
The New York ready to wear collections for Fall 2012/2013 start on February 9, followed by Milan and Paris, and of course, tucked in there is the Oscars. Be ready for some head spinning looks and fulfilling your fashion fix for pretty much two months. Of course, it's a shame fashion season has to run consecutively with awards season -- too much distraction at once!
