Early 'Dark Knight' shows selling out quickly online

Things continue to look supernova-bright for "The Dark Knight."

Hundreds of midnight Thursday showtimes sold out through online-ticketing services as well as many of the unusually early showtimes scheduled for today. Warner Bros. said there were about 3,000 midnight showtimes, and the studio set an industry record with its 4,366 theaters on board for "Dark Knight" through the weekend.

"We expect Friday to be our biggest ticket-selling day in company history," Fandango spokesman Harry Medved said.

The online ticketer said 94% of its recent ticket sales were for "Dark Knight." Even 67% of those telling Fandango pollsters that they planned to see the bowing Universal musical "Mamma Mia!" eventually said they plan first to see "Dark Knight."

Online service MovieTickets said 87% of its Wednesday ticket sales were for "Dark Knight."

MovieTickets said Thursday that it has registered more than 1,600 sellouts among domestic showtimes throughout the weekend for "Dark Knight."

The 94 Imax sites set to show the Christian Bale starrer are effectively sold out through the weekend, Warners said. (partialdiff)
