"Today was precious and perfect."

Eat, Pray, Love author Elizabeth Gilbert revealed Tuesday on Instagram that she held a "ceremony of love" with her partner, writer Rayya Elias.

"Over the last year, Rayya Elias and I have been through some really difficult days together — but not today. Today was precious and perfect," she captioned alongside a photo of the two sharing a sweet moment. "A simple and spontaneous ceremony of love, surrounded by a small handful of friends and family."

Gilbert noted that the ceremony was "nothing legally binding (no need to alert the authorities, folks!)," but instead, "just a quiet and private celebration of what we have long known to be true: We belong to each other."

Gilbert, 47, was married to Jose Nunes for nearly 10 years before calling it quits last year. "Our split is very amicable. Our reasons are very personal," she shared in a Facebook post in July 2016.

"More difficult days are to come. It doesn't get easier from here. Her illness is grave," continued Gilbert, who revealed in a Facebook post last September that Elias was diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer.

Gilbert concluded: "But our love is strong. We will walk together as far as we can go together. After that, it all gets turned over to God."
