Ebola Charity Single Featuring One Direction Heads to U.K. No. 1 as First Week Sales Top 250,000
"Do They Know It's Christmas?" has also been helped by the star power of Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, Bono and Chris Martin
Charity supergroup Band Aid 30 looks odds-on to take the No. 1 slot in the U.K. singles chart with "Do They Know It's Christmas?" NME reported Wednesday.
The single, which will raise funds to combat the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, has sold over 250,000 copies so far this week, after already snatching the record for the fastest-selling single in 2014 on its first day of release last week.
Band Aid 30 organizer Bob Geldof, Boomtown Rats frontman, said Monday that the single had already raised $1.57 million.
The huge success of the single was no doubt down to the stellar lineup of Band Aid 30, a veritable who's who of U.K. music, featuring One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith and Paloma Faith as well as Bono and Coldplay's Chris Martin, among many others.
