Ed Asner to Receive Banff Fest Tribute

Legendary film and stage actor to receive lifetime achievement award at Canadian TV festival.

Sitcom legend Edward Asner (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Lou Grant) is to receive a lifetime achievement award at the upcoming 2011 Banff World Media Festival. The Hollywood and Broadway actor and political activist will also offer a master class in Banff.

"Edward Asner is an iconic figure of both the big and small screen," said Ferne Cohen, executive director of the Festival. "His range and versatility as an actor have allowed him to continually push boundaries throughout his career, leaving an indelible stamp on the industry as a whole,” she added.

Asner is currently performing a one man stage show FDR, and stars in the CMT sitcom Working Class.

Past winners of the Banff lifetime achievement award include David Attenborough, Jeremy Isaacs, Sheila Nevin and 2010 recipient William Shatner.
