Edward Zwick wins Academy seat

Defeats Gil Cates in run-off for directors branch post

Edward Zwick has won the run-off election for a seat on the board of directors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, where he will represent the directors branch.

Earlier this month, when the Academy announced the results of its annual board elections, Zwick and Gil Cates tied for the seat, triggering the first run-off election in the Academy's history.

A new round of balloting, which concluded Wednesday, resulted in Zwick's victory.

It will be Zwick's first team on the board, where he will rep the directors branch along with Martha Coolidge and Curtis Hanson.
