EFM bullish about international market

All exhibit stands in Berlin completely booked

COLOGNE, Germany -- In a move apparently aimed at calming nerves frayed by the global financial crisis, Berlin's European Film Market on Tuesday stressed that it is business as usual ahead of the year's first international market.

"Despite the current economic situation ... all exhibit stands at both EFM locations are completely booked," EFM director Beki Probst said. "Buyer and seller registrations are particularly stable at present."

Many are looking to the EFM, which runs concurrent to the Feb. 5-15 Berlin International Film Festival, as a bellwether of the international industry. The commercial climate in Berlin could set the tone for the entire year.
