EFP, Toronto film fest team for event

Producers Lab Toronto forum during September festival

COLOGNE, Germany -- The Toronto International Film Festival will tap into the growing boom in co-productions with the Producers Lab Toronto, a new program intended to boost co-pros between Canada and Europe.

The inaugural Producers Lab, which runs during TIFF Sept. 10-12, will bring together 12 European producers from 12 different European countries with 12 Canuck producers.

The program is the brainchild of European Film Promotion, which runs Cannes' Producers on the Move initiative every year. EFP set up the Producers Lab in collaboration with the Ontario Media Development Corp. and TIFF. The project is backed by cash from the European Union's MEDIA program.

The OMDC and TIFF will select 12 Canadian producers to take part in the 2010 session. The 12 European producers will all be picked from participants in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Producers on the Move events.
