Elizabeth Pena's Cause of Death Revealed
She had liver and heart problems, a death certificate states
Actress Elizabeth Pena died of liver problems caused by alcohol, authorities said on Wednesday.
Pena, who was 55, died Oct. 14 at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. The immediate causes of death are listed on the La Bamba actress death certificate as "cardiopulmonary arrest," "cardiogenic shock," "acute gastrointestinal bleeding" and "cirrhosis of the liver due to alcohol," the Los Angeles County Recorder's Office confirmed.
TMZ first reported the news and posted the death certificate.
Pena had recently wrapped up work on the El Rey Network's Matador, and mothered Sofia Vergara's fictional character on Modern Family.
