Ellen DeGeneres Returns to Stand-up in 'Relatable' Trailer
The stand-up special follows the comedian's first comedy tour in 15 years.
Netflix released the first trailer for the upcoming stand-up special Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable on Tuesday.
The special was filmed on the comedian's first stand-up tour in 15 years and follows her limited-run jaunt, An Evening With Ellen DeGeneres, that took place in August. The tour visited San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle over the span of eight nights.
The trailer opens with DeGeneres walking onstage and waving to a cheering audience.
"A friend of mine was at my house and I told him, 'I'm gonna do stand-up again,' and he said, 'Really?' and I said, 'Yeah, I was hoping for more of a really?!' And he said, 'Well, do you think you're still relatable?'" She then jokes that her butler walked in on the conversation.
DeGeneres also incorporates her daytime talk show host persona in the set. "A few years ago I started ending my show by saying, 'Be kind to one another,' but here's the downside: I can never do anything unkind, ever," she says. "I shouldn't even have a horn in my car. Like, if someone cuts me off in a dangerous way, if I honk, they're like, 'Ellen?!'"
The trailer then shows DeGeneres discussing the cancellation of her sitcom due her to her coming out. "There was this one station manager that said, 'No one's gonna watch a lesbian during the day,'" she recalls. "I said, 'Well, they weren't watching me at night. What time of day is good for a lesbian?'"
Clips of DeGeneres dancing on stage follow before she delivers a joke about the "issue" she has with emotional support animals on airplanes. "You're walking down the aisle to your seat, which is 10B or whatever it is. It's like Noah's Ark. There's a woman with a ferret. There's a man with a mongoose. There's a lady with a donkey," she says. "I say 10B. Does a plane go back that far? I've never been back there."
Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable will be available to stream on Netflix on Dec. 18. Watch the full trailer above.
