Ellis named MPA Asia Pacific chief

HONG KONG -- Mike Ellis has been promoted from senior vp and regional director to president and managing director of the MPA's Asia Pacific Operations, the association announced Tuesday.

Ellis' new position takes effect immediately, and he reports directly to MPA president and COO Bob Pisano.

"With so many Asian countries emerging as pivotal markets for our companies, we want a senior industry ambassador of stature in the region to effectively advocate for open markets and for respect for intellectual property rights," said MPAA chairman and CEO Dan Glickman, adding that the new title was also a result of Ellis' accomplishments and effectiveness in the region.

Ellis started with the MPA in 1999, previously working in the litigation department of law firm Herbert Smith, and spent 15 years with the Royal Hong Kong Police.

Ellis is in charge of 14 Asian countries, and in his new position will continue to develop strategies to combat the growth of piracy and work with local law enforcement agencies to protect the rights of MPA member companies.
