9 A.M. MANI
Celebrity nail artist Maya Apple arrives at my house. She is widely known for her intricate and beautiful nail art and does my manis for most awards shows. I knew that my overall look would include a really bold bright colorful lip, so I wanted to keep the nails muted. We decided on an off-white shade with some gold and black metallic sparkles at the tips. I wouldn’t wear this design every day but it was that perfect pop of "extra" for the Emmys!
11 A.M. PEDI
My shoes for the night would be open toe, so a pedi was a must. I popped over to my neighborhood fave "Bellacures" on Larchmont and went for an oldie but goodie, OPI Lincoln Park After Dark. I spent most of my time here reading up on all the Emmy nominees.
12 to 2 P.M. PREP
My Emmy assignment tonight is backstage at the Winners Circle. I will be interviewing those who win, of course, but since none of us know who that will be exactly, that means I have to be prepared to speak with every single nominee. A good portion of my interviews will air live on E! for our official After Party broadcast, so a girl has to do her homework!
2:30 P.M. PICKUP
Driver arrives. I’m off to meet my glam squad at the Ritz-Carlton in downtown Los Angeles. This is the quiet before the storm. I like to be still and think about how fortunate I am to have my absolute dream job! To have access to the most talented and creative people in Hollywood — both the nominees themselves and my team of hair, makeup and stylists — is an experience I’ll never take for granted.
3:30-5:30 P.M. HAIR/MAKEUP/WARDROBE
The games begin! My stylist, Becca Jefferson, and I have already selected my gorgeous strapless Tadashi Shoji gown, so now it was time to have a creative meeting with my hair and makeup gals. Maria Vargas and I had discussed that my overall look needed some color. My dress was black with a gold underlay, so a bold lip was a must. Red might have made the whole look seem too dated, so we decided on a bright, modern, highly pigmented fuchsia shade. We kept the eyes bare, but my friends at Lash Dip had the most amazing lashes custom made for me. They are sable and fox with 24K gold dipped highlights. Wowza! The hair was a little more difficult to lock down, but after much discussion we decided on brushed-out romantic waves — nothing too fussy or severe. Julie Ferrante nailed it, per usual! And finally, I tried on an assortment of beautiful baubles! We went with some large statement earrings and an assortment of rings. I really feel like the whole look came together and it had a nice overall balance to it.
6 P.M. BACKSTAGE IN POSITION — INTERVIEWS COMMENCE
I head to position backstage at the Nokia Theatre and wait for the winners! I do a series of taped interviews, which E! will incorporate into our live broadcast later.
8 P.M. E LIVE AFTERPARTY
Our show kicks off, and it has already been determined that this is Breaking Bad’s night. As a die-hard fan who has seen every single episode, I was giddy with anticipation that the cast would be making its way over to me soon. An absolute highlight was interviewing Aaron Paul — yo, Bitch! (He was rocking an edgier-than-usual hairstyle. I decide I’m totally feeling it.) I remind Aaron how when he won his first Emmy two years ago for playing Jesse that he and I called his mom during our interview to tell her the news! Here he is again, holding Emmy gold. He seems emotional and exhausted, but always a class act. I thank him for giving us a healthy obsession in TV viewing and a part of me is devastated it is over *sad face*!
9 P.M. THE KISS
My last interview of the night was with ol’ Walter White himself. Bryan Cranston stopped by to discuss his win with that interesting new stache situation of his. He was charming as usual, but I couldn’t help but inquire about his make out sesh earlier in the night with winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Yes, I was shameless. I went there. He told me his lips had been craving kisses as of late, so I proceeded to tell him that I was married woman but that my husband wouldn’t mind (to which he responded, "I’m a married woman too.") He puckered, I puckered. I then had a moment of absolute panic. Don’t cave, Sadler. Do it! And so I did. I left Bryan Cranston with a hot pink lipstick smear on his award winning lips, and well, that was the end to a perfect day.
Catt Sadler wore a Tadashi Shoji dress, Rene Caovilla shoes, Carla Amorin earrings, Le Vian & Meira T rings
