The HBO fantasy drama led the pack for the third year in a row with 23, with a few first-time nominations for its stars.

HBO's Game of Thrones was the most Emmy-nominated TV series for the third year in a row, with the fantasy drama based on George R.R. Martin's book series collecting 23 mentions. Those included first-time nominations for stars Kit Harington and Maisie Williams.

“It is a serious understatement to say that I am somewhat stunned," Harington said Thursday in a statement. "For my work on Game of Thrones to be recognized in this way is an emotional moment for me. I could not be more humbled.”
Added Williams: "I am so grateful to be a part of Game of Thrones, so to be nominated for an Emmy is beyond words, but I would like to say thank you to George for creating such an amazing character and to Dan [D.B. Weiss], David [Benioff] and everyone associated with the show who bring Arya to life."

Meanwhile, Lena Headey had this to say about her third nomination and the show's grand total: "[I'm] totally overwhelmed. Thrilled for the show receiving so many nominations. Wahoo!"

This year, Thrones will attempt to best its record-setting 12 wins by a series in a single season that it achieved last year.
