Emmy reality host contenders

Will Emmy vote Jeff Probst off its island? The "Survivor" guru nabbed the inaugural statuette for reality host last year. But his CBS show was not nominated this year in the reality competition category, meaning the emcee race could be wide open.

That might seem to put "Amazing Race" host Phil Keoghan in the pole position -- his CBS show is the perennial Emmy winner and this season Keoghan learned sign language to communicate with the show's first deaf contestant.

But "Race" gets so much attention, voters might wish to branch out and reward ratings champion "American Idol" (Fox) and its host Ryan Seacrest, who guides that program so smoothly it's easy to forget he was the kid with the frosted hair and the designer T-shirts in the show's early seasons.

Consistently classy Tom Bergeron could slip in for ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," which would be a vote of confidence in that show's continued appeal.

Cable nominees might not have the ratings, but "Project Runway" (Bravo) co-host Heidi Klum is a repeat nominee, and "Top Chef" (Bravo) managed to get two hosts nominated -- Tom Colicchio and Padma Lakshmi -- even though both "Dancing" and "Runway" feature equivalent co-hosts.
