Women Wear the Pants at the Emmy Awards
Says Jill Soloway's stylists of dressing her in a Bottega Veneta polka-dot suit, "It feels amazing to dress a winner."
All eyes were on Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany when she stepped onto the Emmys red carpet, and not just because she’s a gorgeous actress who was nominated for a statuette. It was her white Bouchra Jarrar tuxedo.
But the star was far from the only one who opted to don pants for the red-carpet affair. Young actresses Kiernan Shipka and Sophie Turner went with slacks — the Mad Men starlet in Dior, and the Game of Thrones beauty in a strapless jumpsuit.
Lisa Kudrow wore a classic black Max Mara suit, and Carrie Brownstein arrived in a chic cropped black Stella McCartney pantsuit, accessorized with a box clutch, stilettos and a buttoned-up collar.
Transparent’s Jill Soloway accepted her Emmy in an amazing polka-dotted suit by Bottega Veneta with matching button-up shirt, paired with platform creepers by Stella McCartney. "We are big fans of the show Transparent so we were excited just to work with such a creative and comedic talent," said Soloway's stylists, Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn. "[Soloway] knew that she wanted to be comfortable and cool and make a statement." The power stylists, who also work with Ciara and Jennifer Lopez, added, "Not only does it feel amazing to dress a winner, but, more importantly, someone that is making a change and impact on society. Inspiring all around."
Several of the Orange Is the New Black ladies — Abigail Savage and Lea DeLaria — also got in on the trend. Maybe pants are the new gown.
