'Game of Thrones' and HBO lead the pack as the premium cable network's fantasy-drama makes history.

With 29 wins and 126 total nominations coming into Sunday's 67th annual Primetime Emmys, HBO again finished atop the networks with 43 wins. The premium cabler was fueled by Game of Thrones — which topped The West Wing and set a record for the most wins by a series in a single year — and Olive Kitteridge, which nearly swept the limited series category. In addition to Game of Thrones' first-ever drama series win, HBO won for best comedy series (Veep) as well as limited series (Olive Kitteridge).

On the series side, the night belonged to the fantasy-drama based on the novels by George R.R. Martin — who also celebrated his 67th birthday Sunday. Olive Kitteridge came in second with eight wins, followed by FX anthology American Horror Story: Freak Show with five.
