From five-time winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus to acclaimed actress Lily Tomlin, the noms are stacked with the best female leads in television comedy.

This year's category for best actress in a comedy series is chock full of Emmy veterans, with each of the nominees having won or been nominated before at some point in their careers. The list features some of comedy's greatest female powerhouses, including the likes of Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Allison Janney, Ellie Kemper, Tracee Ellis Ross, Pamela Adlon and last year's winner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Louis-Dreyfus is nominated for her performance in HBO's political satire Veep as the bumbling politician Selina Meyer. With a record-breaking five consecutive wins for best comedy actress, Dreyfus is looking to continue her streak at this year's show.

Grace and Frankie stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin face off for their performances as two unlikely friends brought together when their husbands fall in love. While this is Tomlin's third consecutive nomination for the Netflix dramedy, Fonda received her first nod for Grace and Frankie this year.

Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's Ellie Kemper are both up for their second nominations in the category. Allison Janney makes an appearance in the field for her portrayal of dysfunctional mother Bonnie Plunkett in CBS sitcom Mom. Additionally, Pamela Adlon is nominated for her performance in FX's Better Things, which she co-created with revered comedian Louis C.K.
