The awards are being handed out over two nights this weekend in Los Angeles.

Last Week Tonight With John Oliver won the Emmy for outstanding writing for a variety series at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony on Sunday night.

TBS' Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, Comedy Central's Inside Amy Schumer and Key & Peele, IFC's Portlandia and NBC's long-running Saturday Night Live also were in the running for the honor.

The award, which debuted in 1957, was given out for the first time in 1964 to The Dick Van Dyke Show and in more recent years to the writers at The Daily Show With John Stewart, who have taken home the golden statuette 11 times.

The Creative Arts Emmys, which typically take place over just one night, were split this year and held on Saturday night and Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
