Engaged Emmys Couple Reflects on Proposal: "Biggest Moment of Our Lives"

Glenn Weiss and his new fiancee, Jan Svendsen, revealed in a new interview that they both blacked out during their awards show engagement.

Not long after they got engaged on live TV during Monday night's Emmy Awards, Glenn Weiss and his new fiancee, Jan Svendsen, opened up about the surprise proposal. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the couple revealed that they hardly remember what Weiss called the "biggest moment of our lives."

"That was unbelievable. I don't really even remember," Svendsen said. "I have to look at the tape because I don't even know what I did."

Weiss — who won the award for best directing for a variety special for his work on the Oscars — popped the question during his acceptance speech. "I don't even know what made it and what didn't at this point," Weiss said, adding that he felt forced to keep his remarks short just in case he was "played off."

"I kept running it in my head and timing it with a watch," he explained. "Because I don't want to be played off during the biggest moment of our lives."

Although he figured Svendsen would say yes, he had no idea what to expect from the awards show's star-studded audience. "What absolutely blew my mind here was the reaction…the room reaction. Honest to God, when I thought of doing this, in my head, I'm thinking, 'They're going to play me off. Nobody's going to want me to be doing this,'" he said. "I really had that going on in my head: 'What if they don't?'"

Weiss continued: "And then, all of a sudden, I couldn't even finish what I had planned because everybody was on their feet and yelling and screaming, which is great. I'm so happy it went that way."

Svendsen said that she "didn't see any of that." She elaborated, "I'll have to watch it, but I didn't realize that people were standing and clapping because I literally just saw [Weiss]. I didn't even know what anybody else was doing."

Since last night's Emmys telecast, Weiss and Svendsen's on-camera proposal has been dominating social media, with Twitter and Facebook users fervently offering the duo congrats.

During his acceptance speech, Weiss took a moment to thank Svendsen for being the "sunshine" of his life. "You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife," Weiss said. Svendsen immediately mouthed the word "yes," and then joined Weiss on stage, where he got down on one knee.

"Jan, I want to put this ring that my mom wore on your finger in front of all these people and in front of my mom and your parents watching from above. Will you marry me?" he asked, to which Svendsen said yes. He then joked, "Thank you to the Academy."
