Jimmy Kimmel, Brie Larson Emoji Movie Reading Still - H 2015
"Someone said, 'You know those little pictures people text each other? Let's make a movie about 'em.' And walked out of the office with a million bucks. It's a fun town," Kimmel joked of the pitch for the film.
Jimmy Kimmel took on the news that Sony is making a movie about emojis.
In his Jimmy Kimmel Live! monologue Wednesday night, the ABC late-night host talked about reports that Sony Pictures Animation won a three-studio bidding war for a movie about the symbols people include in texts and on social media. The studio reportedly paid nearly $1 million off of a pitch.
Kimmel explained what that means to people not familiar with "Hollywood lingo."
"Someone went into a meeting with a group of studio executives and said, 'You know those little pictures people text each other? Let's make a movie about 'em.' And walked out of the office with a million bucks. It's a fun town," he joked.
He then said he stumbled upon an early draft of the emoji script and invited one of his guests, Trainwreck star Brie Larson, out to read a scene with him.
It sounds like a love story gone bad, complete with appearances from Santa Claus, beer, a dancer, the poop emoji and a couple of eggplants and tacos.
