Encore for 'Rock Band' video game

Harmonix and MTV Games to put out sequel

SAN DIEGO -- Harmonix and MTV Games announced the hugely successful music video game "Rock Band" will be getting a sequel this fall.

"Rock Band 2" will debut on Microsoft's Xbox 360 system and will be backward-compatible with the original's downloadable music content.

"As successful as the original 'Rock Band' continues to be, we've now had the benefit of the last eight months to listen to our fans' requests and to build upon that foundation," said Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos in a statement. "'Rock Band 2' is a second-generation band game that will elevate the music game experience to the next level."

The new game features a bigger soundtrack, more online play modes and improved drum and guitar peripherals. The original 'Rock Band' has been smash hit for MTV Games and distributor Electronic Arts since its launch in November, and Harmonix and MTV Games announced that the "Rock Band" online music store recently surpassed 15 million paid downloads.
