Endemol chief to give MIPTV keynote

Ynon Kreiz says year ahead will be challenging

LONDON -- Endemol CEO Ynon Kreiz will deliver the keynote address at this year's MIPTV market, pronouncing the forthcoming year to be the most challenging in a decade.

Kreiz, who took over as head of the private equity-backed producer of such shows as "Big Brother" and "Deal or No Deal" in June, will tell execs at the global content market, which runs March 30-April 3, that content creators will need to take "bold and innovative" steps in order to ride the downturn.

"MIPTV is a pivotal event in the TV industry calendar, and 2009 is set to be the most challenging year our sector has faced in over a decade," Kreiz said.

His senior team -- including incoming chief commercial officer and former head of Disney's European distribution and channels business Tom Toumazis -- gets its feet under the table from Jan. 1.

Reed Midem's director of television Paul Johnson said the keynote would be one of the market's highlights.

"Ynon is steering Endemol on a new path," Johnson said. "Undoubtedly, Endemol's keynote will be one of the highlights of our MIPTV conference program next year," he said.
