Endemol co-founder steps down from Stage

AMSTERDAM -- Dutch producer Joop van den Ende, co-founder of Endemol with John de Mol, announced Friday at a news conference in Amsterdam that he is to step down as director of Stage Entertainment.

The company is mainly active in producing musicals for the Dutch stage.

Van den Ende said the time was ripe to hand over his company to new management. His position will be taken over by Henk Kivits, chairman of Holland Casino.

Stage Entertainment was founded in 1998 and is active in 12 countries, dealing mainly with musicals. The company has 5,000 employees. Under Van den Ende, it was responsible for the boom in musicals in the Netherlands, a genre that was neglected for decades.
